2021 Best Folding Wagons

When it comes to a quick getaway, few things beat a day at the beach. The opportunity to relax in the fresh air, cold drink in hand, can do wonders for the soul. However, an armful of stuff from the trunk of the car all the way to your beach blanket? Not so much.

A folding wagon can solve all your problems and can double at home for carting gardening tools or other implements around the backyard. The best folding/foldable and push/pull wagons collapse into small, easy-to-transport packages, so you can bring them along for the ride and store them out of the way when you return. Just unpack the wagon from the car, set it up, and load it with everything you need.

  2. BEST PUSH PULL FOLDING WAGON WITH CANOPY: The Wagon Store Folding Push/Pull Sport Wagon 2.0

  4. BEST FOR KIDS: Keenz Stroller Wagon – 7S Pull/Push Wagon Stroller
  5. BEST ALL-TERRAIN: Mac Sports Heavy Duty Folding All Terrain Wagon

What should you consider when buying a folding wagon?

We suggest right out of the gate you check some reviews first and don't just look for the best prices as some of the cheaper wagons out there we received where not just cheap in price they where actually very bad in quality.  It seems these wagons can all look just about the same but when you really take a close look you will see the difference.  This is very true for the picks we selected.

Do you want a utility only foldable wagon or do you want something that combines utility with hauling your kids around?  Some wagons like the push/pull sport wagon 2.0 from The Wagon Store or the Keenz wagon provide both features.  While they are a bit more expensive both of these wagons proved to be of high quality so we expect them to last a long time.  If utility is all you need than the mac sport which was our #1 pick could be your choice.

How the wagon steers is another thing you will want to know.  These wagons have there pull handled welded directly to the frame with some located higher and some lower.  Seems the folding wagons with handles located lower give better steering while the ones with higher handles give a taller person more control.  The new way to steer is not by pulling but by pushing and with these options you can find out what works best for you...your foldable wagons now becomes that upgraded stroller you've always wanted.

How much do they hold you ask?  Well everyone we tested held over 100lbs and where rated for up to 150lbs.  Who wants to pull or push more than that anyways?  We didn't.

So many wheel choices it seems.  Well we will tell you nothing works the best on sand if that is what your wanting and even our #5 pick just performed just OK because the wheels just really dragged across the sand.  Seems like the harder rubber (not plastic) wheels worked the best for overall use.

The best folding wagons are all about convenience. You’ll want a wagon that folds into a compact package easily, like from thewagonstore.com which fold the fastest and easiest with just one pull of the strap.

The more heavy-duty or feature-rich a wagon is, the more expensive it is and how long it it takes to fold up.  Our #1 choice from Mac sport was the fastest but also the from The Wagon Store after you took the canopy top off was fast and easy as well but it only beat the Keenz by a second or two. In short the more features the longer it will take.

All you will have to do is pull the strap at the bottom and wallow your wagons fold up.  Cleaning these wagons can be done with a hose and mild detergent.  Check from your manufacture if details.

Depth

Most of these folding wagons have a similar depth do you wont be worried about your stuff falling out.  The weight limits of all the wagons we reviewed are atleast 150lbs.

Material

When it comes to the frame, aluminum construction is a great choice. This metal is strong enough to haul around heavy items but light enough not to restrict you from packing it in the back of your car. You might also find steel frames, which are even more durable, though slightly heavier.

When it comes to the fabric interiors, nylon or polyester are most common. These materials are lightweight, extremely durable, and easy to clean. They can even be water (or juice box) resistant, making cleanup straightforward.

The Wheels are made in different materials such as plastic, polyurethane, and rubber

The best we reviewed are below

These are our top picks.  We tested and used these wagons for over a month and really put them through all sorts of heavy duty uses. Knowing will help you decide and the more you know about what goes into choosing the best folding wagon for your needs, you’re ready to check out the market.

BEST OVERALL

The Best Folding Wagon Option: Mac Sports WTC-111 Outdoor Utility Wagon

Its small and doesn't cost a lot but the Mac Sport for what it is came out on top. Now its not the best for kids inside and it says they should sit in it but to haul your sports equipment to the came or toot your stuff around at the country market it works just fine.  The tires are not the best fo the sand but what can you expect for the price. It has a large capacity and breaks down real fast.  The dimensions are 32" long, 20" wide and 17 1/2 tall.

It has a steel frame and nylon fabric and says 150-pound weight capacity but that could be a bit hight.  Weighs only 22lbs. The handle is telescopic and maneuvers easily.  Folds up fast with a pull of the stop in the middle and is about 8 inches think and comes with a cover to keep it safe.

Best Folding Push/Pull Wagon.

The Folding Push/Pull Wagon from the wagon store is really a great choice as you can push and pull it.

The price, the quality and features make this our #2 choice.  You can push it or pull or you can try both even.  It work will at the parts and around town and the canopy top was easy to install and take off.  If you want a wagon that gives both a utility use and can have children in it get this one.  Comes in four colors.  I especially liked all the different storage compartments and pouches it has in the front.  It has a rear basket to keep things like a cooler or just whatever you like and if folds down when not in use. The Best Folding Wagon Option: BEAU JARDIN Folding Wagon Cart

From Beau Jardin who's known for good stuff here's #3.  A bit more pricey than the Mac sport wagon but hey you get bigger tires and front breaks.  I like how this thing stands up with the built in kick stand on the rear tires.  Has high quality fabric and took a beating on our test track.

Standout features. Wide rubber wheels help distribute the weight over softer surfaces like sand and dirt but we did find it sank into the sand a bit buy hey who's perfect. It's telescoping handle also is and is over 33" long.  Wagons comes in at just under 30lbs...just made the cut.

BEST FOR KIDS

Best Folding Wagon

Kids love to bring lots of stuff with them wherever they go, and the Keenz Stroller Wagon can haul kids and their belongings with ease. It even comes with five-point seatbelts and a canopy for keeping them protected on hot, sunny days. The stroller has been safety tested.

The Keenz features a strong aluminum frame and durable polyester fabric, allowing it to transport up to 45 pounds of kid and 110 pounds of kids and gear. The wagon measures 35½ inches long, 19½ inches wide, and over 11 inches deep. It has dual multipositional push handles on both ends of the wagon for a choice of steering from either, and pivoting front wheels improve maneuverability. There’s even a storage flap with pockets for phones, bottles, snacks, and other necessities.

BEST ALL-TERRAIN

The Best Folding Wagon Option: Mac Sports Heavy Duty Folding All Terrain Wagon
Photo: amazon.com

This wagon worked the best on the sand.  We loaded it up and spent the entire day at the beach.  The wheels are wide and 10" tall which helps it to make it over softer surfaces like sand.  If pretty heavy duty and still light weight. The aluminum frame and durable polyester fabric allow this wagon to carry up to 150 pounds while weighing only about 23 pounds itself. It also has a telescoping handle and the standard pull strap for easy folding.

FAQs About Folding Wagons

All the wagons we tested had certain options we like but we know you may still have some questions so below we have some answers for you.  If you can find the answer check the links above and ask the manufactures directly.

Q. How do you open a folding wagon?

One of the most common ways for the wagons we reviewed to open is simply push it down in the middle and than they open by themselves.  At most all you do is push down in the middle and they pop open.  Check with instructions that come with your wagon for more details.

Q. How do you fold up a wagon?

Typically with all these wagons all you do is find the pull tap in the middle and pull it up.  Some wagons may require you to move wheels or unlock them or even slide some together. All of the wagon we tested came with clear instructions so that the first place to start.

Q. Is a folding wagon good for the beach?

The truth here is that no matter the size of the tire or the width depending on how much weight you have in the wagon is the biggest conditions with how they will work.  The simple fact is that these wagons don't have tires that have motors and if the folding wagon is heavy and the sand soft and dry the wagon may drop a bit.
